Community By Design
When Habitat for Humanity approached Align Design to design a "Pocket Neighborhood" concept, we teamed up with Tracy deShazo Interiors who shares a belief that higher-density development should have character, charm, and timeless beauty. Together, we focused on creating a design narrative featuring “right sized” homes and a site plan that minimizes asphalt and maximizes walkability.
Pocket neighborhoods promote community where homes are arranged in clusters around shared outdoor spaces, fostering a more intimate and neighborly environment.
This design for Habitat for Humanity champions collaboration and socializing while maintaining the privacy and comfort of individual homes. Courtyard spaces are designed to serve dual purpose—acting as practical spaces for material storage and volunteer training during the construction phase and gathering spaces for the community once construction is completed.
Inspired by traditional Southern architecture, the neighborhood features three distinct home styles, providing variety while maintaining construction efficiency. The inclusion of porches on each home encourages personal expression, giving families the opportunity to add their own touch and creating a vibrant, lived-in feel that enhances the overall community atmosphere.
Let us help you turn your development vision into reality with a design that seamlessly blends functionality, beauty, and lasting value.
